The collectible one
The Featherweight — Singer class 221, eleven pounds of black enamel and gold decals — is the vintage machine people actually hunt. Its serial number sits in the same register as every other Singer, and this lookup reads it the same way: the real register block, the class, and the allotment date.
One box, three brands. Pick the brand, type the number exactly as you find it on the machine, and read the answer with the record it came from.
Featherweight blocks are class 221 (or 221-1). If your result shows a different class, the machine is not a Featherweight — it is a full-size Singer wearing a similar face, and it prices very differently.
Most 221s were allotted at Elizabethport, New Jersey. The free-arm 222K was built at Kilbowie, Scotland — its serial starts with an E-series prefix and its class reads 222K. The 222K is the rarer, pricier machine.
A 1951 machine may carry the Centennial badge (1851–1951, "A Century of Sewing Service"). Badges and special finishes (blackside parts, crinkle paint) move value — the kit's checklist covers which ones, and how buyers verify them.
Recent sold listings and auction results, October 2026 — sold prices, not asking prices:
| Machine | Condition | Recent sold range |
|---|---|---|
| Featherweight 221 | Clean, working, with case and attachments | $400 – $900 |
| Featherweight 221 | Estate-auction example, with case (sold March 2026) | $385 |
| Featherweight 221, 1951 Centennial | Listed example (asking price) | $559 |
| Featherweight 222K (free-arm) | Clean and complete | $800 – $2,000 |
| White / pale 221K | Clean and complete | $700 – $1,500 |
Ranges are observed sales, not an appraisal of your machine. Condition, decals, case, attachments and badges move an individual machine across the whole range — the kit walks the full pricing method from sold listings.
This is the machine the kit was built around: sold-comp pricing by year and badge, the completeness checklist buyers grade with, the twelve photos that prove condition, and the safe wiring check before anyone plugs it in.
